Cadillac ATS-V.R Racer Preps for LA Auto Show Reveal
A few days ago, we showed you the first pictures of the new ATS-V coupe, which had been leaked online before its LA Auto Show debut. Now, according to our sources, the car’s race car sibling will make its debut alongside the road car. Just like the C7 Z06 and the C7.R, Cadillac received help from the Pratt & Miller Corvette team to ensure the company created both the ultimate ATS-V and ATS-V.R race car. The ATS-V.R will use a variation of the twin turbocharged V6 engine found in the road car; however, it will be tweaked for even more power to compete in the Pirelli World Challenge series. For the past few seasons, Cadillac has absolutely dominated the Pirelli World Challenge series, but this year struggled to stay ahead of its competitors brand-new cars. The CTS-V.R had been racing in the same relative configuration for the past half decade, but no longer was the benchmark of performance it used to be.
To maintain its dominance, Cadillac needed to invest in a far greater endeavor.
Most of the cars in series are FiA GT3 spec cars. Cadillac needed to get FiA GT3 certification and a complete redesign to stay on top. With the FiA credentials, Cadillac can take this car to LeMans, if it wants, and put it up against the C7.R race cars and the rest of the world to truly show off this iconic American brand.
