It has a ton of standard equipment, though.

The soon-to-be 10-year-old XC90 is back with a fresh facelift, and Volvo has given it a new coat of paint and then some for its UK launch. This newly updated flagship hybrid SUV promises both luxury and eco-conscious performance – starting at a wallet-squeezing £63,790 for the base B5 AWD Core trim versus £61,680 for the previous base model. But there’s more to it than what you see on the surface.

Volvo’s going all-in on design details to make this XC90 blend with its sleek, fully electric sibling, the EX90. Highlights include a reworked front grille, slimmer “Thor’s hammer” headlights, and a reprofiled bumper. Inside, Volvo has moved past the whole button-and-dial vibe, introducing an 11.2-inch touchscreen system as the XC90’s infotainment brain. It’s got higher resolution than its predecessor, making everything from switching drive modes to queuing up your Spotify playlists feel smoother. Plus, thanks to Volvo’s over-the-air updates, the XC90 can upgrade itself wirelessly.

Volvo’s upped its interior game with an elegant new colour palette, including Mulberry Red for the exterior and Cardamom for the interior, making the XC90 a cosy yet stylish sanctuary. And in the true spirit of sustainability, Volvo's seats are decked out in Nordico – an eco-friendly textile sourced from recyclables and sustainably harvested materials from Sweden and Finland. Of course, no luxury SUV would be complete without enough space to stash your gear – the refreshed XC90 keeps its famed seven-seat layout and a sizeable 680-litre boot.

In the UK, the new XC90 comes in three trims: Core, Plus, and Ultra. The entry-level Core keeps things warm with heated seats and steering wheel, four-zone climate control, and a slick new set of 20-inch wheels. If you step up to Plus, you’ll find an upgraded Harman Kardon audio system, adaptive suspension, and a 360-degree camera. The Ultra version? It’s for those who want it all: massage seats, Nappa leather, a 1400-watt Bowers & Wilkins audio setup, and 21-inch wheels to boot. Full pricing is listed below.

Tell us what you think!

The XC90 offers two powertrain choices: a mild-hybrid B5 petrol engine with 250 PS, or the T8 plug-in hybrid with a 310 PS petrol engine and a 145 PS electric motor. The latter can even go up to 44 miles on pure electric, with a charge time of about three hours. While the B5 cruises from 0-62 mph in 7.7 seconds, the T8 dashes to the same speed in a zippy 5.4 seconds.
