BMW is Building an Even Faster i8
BMW is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2016 and that celebration will include the introduction of a new high-performance version of the i8 codenamed the M100. This will be a much sportier version of the existing i8 and it will include bespoke parts to make it something even more desirable. It's said to be called the i8S and although it will resemble its less sporty brother, it will in many ways be a very different car. To start with, there are no rear seats in this one making it a two-seater with a larger luggage bay. RELATED: See More of the 2014 BMW i8
The car will have retuned suspension, bigger brakes, and wider tires along with aerodynamic changes to take advantage of the performance features. And, of course, the powertrain is getting an upgrade to match.
The details are unconfirmed, but Automobile has them looking at two different possibilities. The first is a twin-turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder that will produce around 320 horsepower. The second is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder with a much larger 480 horsepower.

All that power will have the BMW i8S doing 0-60 MPH in 3.5 seconds on its way to a limited top speed of 155 mph. We won't see this on the roads in the US until 2017. Even then we won't be seeing a lot of them since this i8 will likely cost in the neighborhood of $175,000.
