Ford Fusion/Mondeo ST Rendering Makes Us Drool
You probably already know that the Ford Mondeo is the European version of our Ford Fusion. You also probably already know that the current Fusion has been well-received by the press in part because of its solid driving dynamics. But what you might not know is that Ford's large and lovely sedan comes in a hotted-up variant. At least, in the virtual world. This Mondeo/Fusion ST concept rendering was created by X-Tomi Design and gives us a good look at what the Fusion would look like wearing a performance suit. The question therin lies — why shouldn’t Ford take the 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine from the 2015 Mustang and mate it to a standard manual transmission (yes, we know the car lost its available manual in 2015)? Make an automatic trans an option, slap on a body kit, tweak the suspension, add sportier rubber, and call it a day. Available all-wheel-drive would make sense, too. We’d buy one. Or ten.
It may seem ludicrous to offer a performance-oriented family sedan, but there’s precedent. Ford used to peddle the Taurus SHO back when the Taurus was a mid-size sedan. A SHO trim still remains on the Taurus to this day, now that the Taurus is a full-size car. Dodge is creating an insane Charger Hellcat version of its full-size sedan, and there are plenty of entry-luxury sports sedans on the market. Ford shouldn’t have to work too hard to build a business case.

Seriously, Ford, build this car. There are plenty of enthusiasts who need a four-door sedan and can’t afford a weekend toy like a Mustang— and this could be the perfect way to capture those buyers.
