2015 Corvette Z06 Meets The Wall at Nürburgring
The 2015 Corvette Stingray Z06 is proving to be both incredibly beautifully and incredibly fast according to figures recently released by GM. All that speed was recently tested on GM's tracks and at Nürburgring, where the Z06 ran afoul of a wall recently while doing laps. To be fair, Nürburgring is not an easy course, so it is easy to see how a car like the new Corvette could get away from even the best of drivers. It will do a 0-60 mph sprint in a cool 2.95 seconds when equipped with an automatic transmission, or a still impressive 3.2 seconds if you prefer your car with a manual. The quarter-mile takes only 11.2 seconds to blow past the windows. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06
The car also manages 1.2 G lateral acceleration on a skid pad, which bests the old model's 1.13 G. It's equipped with serious stopping power, going from 60-0 mph in 99.6 feet which GM says is the best braking performance of any car they've ever tested.
That's a lot of car, and even in the hands of a pro, it managed to be a little too much power at Nürburgring. The car slid off the track at Hatzenbach corner and although the front end of the car was damaged, the driver was just fine.
