The Lamborghini Asterion is a 900HP Hybrid Mess
I don’t even know where to start. You know those days where there are just so many things you have to do that you’d rather just lie on the couch and take a nap? That’s how I feel about this car. It’s so messy. It’s so un-Lamborghini. Let me run you through the specifics first — it has a 910-horsepower V10 plug-in hybrid. It has all-wheel drive. Its top speed is almost 200 mph and it returns an impressive 56 mpge on American roadways. It's a big step for Lamborghini, considering it's the first hybrid the brand has ever built. But there are definitely a few problems with it. RELATED: See Photos of the All-New Lamborghini Asterion Concept
The first thing you'll notice is that there’s something off about the design. It’s definitely not reminiscent of Lamborghini, unless you consider the horrid Uracco. It’s like a mishmash of the Porsche 918 and Ferrari F430 up front, with a load of Alfa Romeo 4C cues in the back. Not to mention those horribly tacky wheels. And we all thought the Huracan wasn't Lamborghini enough.
Then there's the interior, which is a two-tone brown ivory alcantara that just doesn’t fit the car at all. From top to bottom, the whole thing is a design nightmare. To be fair to this ugly duckling, it is still a concept. An ugly concept.

But then there's the biggest issue. Lamborghini isn't branding this car as a competitor to the Porsche 918s and McLaren P1s of the world. Oh no, the Asterion is a big, ugly "hyper cruiser" that wasn't made for corners. At least not how they're branding it. Shoving 900 horsepower in a Lamborghini and then telling everyone they can't take it to the track is probably the worst thing they could have done.
If Lamborghini does produce this — and that’s a big if — it needs a serious overhaul before buyers would consider it before McLaren, Porsche or Ferrari. Who knows? Maybe they made the concept worse so that we're blown away by the production model. Maybe. I don't know.
