McLaren 625C Sports Car is Like a 650S, Only Worse
Admittedly, I was a little confused this morning when McLaren announced the new 625C. If it looks like a 650S, and acts like a 650S, it must be a 650S, right? Wrong. The McLaren 625C is not the 911 fighter we’ve been waiting for, but rather, it’s a toned down, luxuried up version of the 650S specifically for the Asian market. But why the heck is McLaren giving China a worse 650S? According to McLaren, the Asian market just can’t handle all that 650S power. The 625C tones it down to a measly 616 horsepower from the 650S’ 641 horsepower, but it uses the same 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 McLaren 625C
Other changes made to the 625C (the “C” stands for “Club”) include new dampers, revised mechanicals making that make the sports car less harsh and more comfortable, and a 0-60 mph time of 3.1 seconds. That’s .1 seconds slower than the 650S — you know, because comfort.
The 625C will be launched in Hong Kong and will make its way around Asian McLaren dealerships. McLaren hasn’t said how much this softer 650S will set back buyers, but we do expect a little bit much of a markdown from its older brother.
