A Drifting BMW i8 Making Glorious Clouds of Tire Smoke [Video]
An electric car is sensible, they say. It's for a practical driver looking to save the environment and a few pennies at the pump, they say. Strike that and reverse it, because the BMW i8 is also for drifting around the track and throwing up huge clouds of tire smoke. The funny thing about this video is that it's not actually advertising the BMW i8, but rather, chipmaker Qualcomm and how their products are getting into cars and making them better. OK, whatever. Can we get back to the whole i8 being thrashed around a track part of things? Thanks. RELATED: See More Photos of the 2014 BMW i8 Not Smoking Its Tires
Qualcomm chose to have two of their engineers try to explain how they make cars better while riding along in the i8 with Formula E driver Nelson Piquet Jr. hooning it like only a racing driver can. It is insanely cool and would likely make everyone reading this scream "Yeehaw!" or the joyful expletive of their choice.
Unfortunately, these poor engineers look not quite so happy and have to answer tech questions while Piquet is having his fun. They even ask them to use a white board and draw a diagram of how things work. One guy pulls it off, but the other one lost his pen, probably while he was holding on for dear life. I swear, the first guy looks like he's ready to puke.
