Challenger Hellcat Might Be Even More Powerful
The 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat has gotten tons of press for having 707 horsepower and being the most badass car on the street. But one report suggests that the car has more power than the official number that Dodge has put out. Jalopnik reports a source within the company said Dodge dynamometer tests on the car measure anywhere from 720 to 825 horsepower. Holy crap. And that same source said that the company had a hard time passing emissions requirements even with the Hellcat at 707. RELATED: Check Out All 707 HP Worth of the Dodge Challenger Hellcat
The report goes on to say that the Hellcat engine might be test bed for a mass-airflow sensor setup—currently, Chrysler uses manifold absolute pressure sensors to detect air density. On top of that, the inside source said that Chrysler is looking into supercharging for small engines in economy cars as a way of increasing power and fuel economy.
No matter how much power the Hellcat actually puts out, it’s still an impressive machine. We’re also intrigued to see if that source is right about the supercharging for small cars. That may actually be the bigger news, as it could change how the brand builds small cars going forward. We'll just have to wait and see.
