Rare 1923 Vauxhall Taxi Sells For $89K at Auction
She may not look like much, but this rare 1923 Vauxhall OD 23-60 HP Kington Tourer sold for just over $89,000 at a recent auction. That's quite a princely sum for a car that hasn't seen the light of day since 1967. PHOTOS: See More of the 1928 Vauxhall 20/60 Hurlingham Speedster
The 90-year-old car was originally a taxi in Southampton and cost £895 back when it was brand new. It served as a taxi in the 1930s and was eventually sold to a Mr. Charles Ayscough from Basingstoke. It was last seen by the public at a special garden fete back in 1967, but has been hidden away ever since.
The Vauxhall was expected to fetch a high price due to its rarity, but the final number was quite a bit more than what was expected. Prior to the auction, estimates had it going for between £25,000 and £30,000. The little taxi came in at double what they thought it was worth. The exact price was £55,200 which converts to about $89,136.
