Subaru Building a WRX Hatchback After All?
There are three main critiques of the 2015 Subaru WRX: it’s not that pretty, it rides too stiff, and there’s no more hatchback model. Well, spy shots obtained by Autoblog seem to indicate that criticism number three might be addressed by the brand. Subaru had said that a hatchback wasn’t going to happen on the current model due to loads of development money being spent on engineering the chassis and powertrain. But if that test mule is any indication, that might not be the case. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Subaru WRX
What looks like an Impreza at first glance appears to have room for a hood scoop and the WRX’s grille, which has Internet sleuths thinking that maybe this is the real deal.
If so, we’d expect it to be mechanically identical to the current WRX, with maybe only a power bump. The WRX is already a performance bargain that’s not hard to live with in daily use—so a hatchback version can only be more useful.
