2016 Mazda Miata Coupe Might Actually Happen
Next week marks the unveiling of the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata. We’re counting the seconds. And while we fully expect it to be as gloriously fantastic as every other Miata ever made, there might be a big surprise waiting. According to Automotive News, the new MX-5 Miata might come in two forms — roadster and coupe. And by coupe we mean a top that doesn’t fold down flat. Considering Mazda has never put a fixed-top Miata into mass production (limited production in 2003), this is a huge deal. PHOTOS: See More of the 2012 Mazda MX-5 Super25 Concept
Along with a fixed top, a few other details tell us that the new Miata will be lighter, have a 2.0-liter SkyActiv engine, and a six-speed manual gearbox, obviously. And from what we heard in Mazda’s teaser vid, it might even be turbo too.
We sincerely hope that each and every one of these rumors is true. If so, the Toyotabaru twins better watch their backs, there’s a new kid in town, and he's coming out swingin'.
