Renovo Coupe Blends EV Technology, Retro Looks: Pebble Beach
You’ve probably never heard of Renovo Motors. You’ve probably never heard of the Renovo Coupe. And you’ve definitely never heard of anyone shoving a 500 horsepower electric powertrain into the body of a Shelby CSX 9000. But alas, some crazy Californans did exactly that. Silicon Valley-based upstart Renovo Motors unveiled its aptly named Renovo Coupe at Pebble Beach. What looks like an iconic Shelby on the outside, is paired to the aforementioned electric powertrain and 500 horses underneath. 0-60 mph can be handled in only 3.4 seconds, thanks to a relatively light weight of 3,250 lbs. Once there’s no more juice, it takes about five hours to charge back up to full steam. Opt for the rapid charger though and it cuts that time down to about 30 minutes. Renovo didn't say exactly how long it could run on a single charge.
But where did this inspiration come from? CEO Christopher Heiser says that the team “sought out to create an aspirational vehicle that demonstrates the performance, control, and excitement that is possible with EV technology.”

Right now, the Coupe prototype is on display at Pebble Beach, but Renovo says it won’t be available to customers until 2015. As for price, potential buyers will be staring down a massive MSRP of $529,000. Alternative energy isn’t cheap, folks, but it is pretty.
