Infiniti Planning 700HP Sedan; Product Onslaught Begins in 2016
The ups and downs of automakers weave intricate story lines. As of late, few look more promising than the future written by Infiniti. Come 2016, Nissan’s global luxury brand will begin to roll out new products with more horsepower on hand – perhaps up to 700hp – according to reports from Automotive News. First on the list comes Infiniti’s Q30 compact hatch, expected to debut early in 2016, and the QX30 crossover, a few months later. The pair will be based on the Mercedes-Benz MFA architecture, a platform that yields the Mercedes A and GLA Class, and will draw power from the same 2.0-liter Mercedes four-cylinder. As for an Infiniti-badged GLA 45 AMG, the jury is still out.

Expect to see the highly talked-about Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge hit the road in 2016 as well. The Eau Rouge, which nabs the GT-R’s 3.8-liter 560-horsepower V6, will likely go on sale with a price tag north of $100,000, and, according to Infiniti’s ex-president Johan de Nysschen, is expected to sell just 500 units per year.
Then comes from the hotly anticipated Infiniti Q80 four-door coupe, believed to debut in 2017 or 2018. The range-topper is expected to share its rear-drive architecture with Mercedes and sport a turbocharged V6 that produces in excess of 600 horsepower, with estimates going as high as 700 hp.
The Mercedes partnership, solidified just over a month ago, will also supply both brands with three new compact vehicles to be built at the group’s joint-venture plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Given the performance pedigree of both brands, don’t expect any of these to languish at the lights.
