Sayonara to Scion xB and xD, Hello to Yaris and Auris
Sometimes you scratch your head and wonder, “Why don’t people buy this car?” That’s what many in the biz have been asking themselves about two of Scion’s previous strong sellers – the boxy xB and the edgy xD. But now, according to a new report from Automotive News, it appears that the reasonably priced hatchbacks will bow out come 2015, possibly in favor of two fresh products from the Toyota range.
Automobile Mag predicts that the Scion xB wagon will be replaced by the European-market Toyota Auris hatchback, which shares its platform with the current Toyota Corolla. Stylistically, the Auris makes a big leap forward in design, an area that the xB initially cornered with its striking looks, albeit all the way back in 2007 with its second redesign. The report suggests the Auris/xB to debut in the first half of 2015.

Elsewhere in the lineup, the xD hatchback is pegged to get replaced by a more familiar face – the Yaris hatchback. Expected to arrive in late 2015, this new model – purported to be a four-door sedan – will ride on the next-gen platform underneath the upcoming 2016 Toyota Yaris and Mazda 2. Like its hatchback siblings, the Scion would be built at Mazda’s Salamanca, Mexico production facility, most likely inheriting Mazda’s new Skyactiv 1.5-liter mill.
