Bentley Mulsanne Speed Gets the Green Light
With its 206 mph top speed and colossal 6.0-liter twin-turbocharged W12 engine, the Bentley Continental GT Speed has a tendency for being the luxury brand’s posh poster boy. That inevitably puts a bit of a damper on Bentley’s flagship vehicle, the Mulsanne, se the British marque will fittingly slap a ‘Speed’ badge onto the back of its grandiose four-door saloon. Why? Because 184 mph just isn’t fast enough. According to the UK’s Auto Express, Bentley will have the Mulsanne Speed buttoned up for a grand reveal later this year. Instead of adopting the Continental’s W12 though, the Mulsanne is expected to retain its 6.75-liter twin-turbo V8, with power turned up from the standard 505 hp to around 550-horsepower. And with more ponies comes more performance. The report estimates a 0-60 mph sprint in less than five seconds and a top speed eclipsing the 200 mph mark, not to say that the standard Mulsanne is by any means lethargic. Expect a few chassis refinements to accompany the boost in power as well.
The Mulsanne Speed represents Bentley’s latest performance variant, which follows the recent debut of the race-ready Continental GT3-R, and suggests that buyers are willing to dig deep into their pockets for a more exclusive vairant. Keep an eye out for the Mulsanne Speed at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, expected to retail for around $426,000.
