Scion FR-S Hybrid Isn’t Happening, Says Toyota
Say what you will about the Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ, but one thing’s for sure, everyone loves to talk about it. So it’s no surprise that yet another rumor surrounding this beloved sportscar has made its way to the interweb. According to Autocar, Toyota is dismissing the idea of a hybrid FR-S because it simply wouldn’t “speak to the majority” of car buyers. PHOTOS: See More of the 2013 Scion FR-S
Toyota marketing director Fabio Capano told the publication “We can create product with this technology, but it needs to make proper business sense. We have to prioritize.”
In short, building a hybrid FR-S would be too costly, and wouldn’t generate enough sales to make any money. It’s disheartening for hybrid lovers, to say the least, but Toyota says that it is still in development of a new hybrid sportscar together with BMW. At least, we hope.
