The Yamaha Star Bolt XV950 Pure Sports is Seriously Epic
Motorcycles from the 1980s didn't have much in the way of suspension, and while the big four-cylinders of the era were capable of tremendous speeds, the V-twin revolution in the 2000s paved the way for bikes that had usable, real-world torque. But bikes from the 1980s looked like real motorcycles, rather than the angry insects/Transformers they've become now. The Yamaha Star Bolt XV950 Pure Sports puts the best of both worlds together -- starting with a completely unlikely donor -- in a stunning machine we've give just about anything to throw a leg over. The starting point for this awesome machine is the Star Motorcycles (nee "Yamaha") Bolt, a kind of run-of-the-mill, cheap entry-level cruiser with a 942cc, air-cooled V-twin, basically in the mold of a Harley-Davidson 883. The bike was designed for the Italian motorcycle magazine LowRide by designer Oberdan Bezzi, who has penned some flat-out stunning bikes over the years. Radikal Chopper in Milan built the bike using Bezzi's drawings as a guide.

Incredibly, what looks like a purely custom motorcycle turns out to be a LOT of stuff from the Star Bolt parts bin. The frame, all the mechanicals, the wiring, and it looks like even the fuel tank and the wheels are a direct lift from the Bolt, which should be pretty inspiring to anybody who bought one of those bikes.
The back half, though, is a completely hand-crafted aluminum rear section totally inspired by the 1980s Yamaha FZ750. Up front, there's a cool, early 1980s-style half-fairing, and a chin spoiler behind the wheel. The paint scheme is full-on FZ, too, down to the vintage Yamaha logos.

"You don't need so much money, and you don't need to change so many things to build a bike that's really your own," says Giuseppe Roncen, Editor-in-Chief at LowRide.
