BMW Reportedly Working On M2 With 375 Horsepower
BMW’s new, even-numbered lineup (2,4), has proven to be some of the best coupes BMW has built in a long time. But while the 4 Series was quick to get the full-M treatment, the lovable 2 Series still hasn’t seen its chance to jump on the M parade. Or will it? According to Bimmerpost, a BMW M2 will be here in 2016. At least, that’s what a source close to the publication is telling them. Beginning production in fall of 2015, the new M2 would be available to buyers by early 2016. PHOTOS: See More of the 2014 BMW 2 Series Coupe
But what could sit under the hood? Like the 1 Series M coupe that it replaces, it will come with significantly more power than the standard 2 Series. Somewhere in the market of 365 to 375 horsepower is expected from a turbocharged inline-six.
Sources inside BMW are giving the M2 project the codename “pyrat2,” in remembrance of the original “pyrat,” the BMW 1M. Whether these reports are will be found out to be true has yet to be seen, but considering the overall praise the 2 Series has garnered so far, we wouldn’t expect anything less.
