Citroen DS 5LS R Concept is a Chinese Heavy Hitter
The Chinese luxury market adores big, exclusive saloons — but will there be any love for this Citroen? We should hope so. Citroen has revealed its new DS 5LS R Concept, which will premiere at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show later this month. The concept is based on the Chinese-market long wheelbase DS 5, but that’s where the similarities drop off. Citroen outfitted the 5LS R with a brutish, WRC-inspired 1.6-liter turbocharged engine (also found in the Peugeot RCZ), producing 300-horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The chassis has been lowered by 15mm and features a wider front-track than the standard DS 5, along with a new set of brakes. Power is one thing, but these looks are another. The 5LS R presents some gorgeous lines, complemented by a red-on-gray color scheme that seems to nod to the Audi R8. Not a bad comparison for sure. Its 20-inch wheels also get away without feeling too ostentatious. And the interior comes adorned with swatches of leather and Alcantara for the dashboard, steering wheel, and the seats.

Citroen has declined to provide a 0-60 mph time or anything of the like, but we can only assume that it’ll be quick – 300hp in anything is usually a good sign. But like all Citroens, the DS 5LS R (if put into production) won’t be offered in North America. Bummer.
