SRT Viper Sportback Revealed, Headed to New York Auto Show
Two years ago, the SRT Viper made its world debut at the New York Auto Show. After a short absence from the market, the world’s baddest snake received a modern facelift and more power. This year, SRT is unveiling something truly special — a Viper Sportback. Get your checkbooks ready people. Speaking with a source close to Chrysler, we found out that this special project had been a longtime coming. “Since the Dodge Magnum left the market, fans have been begging for a new wagon-type vehicle,” said the source. “So what better way to re-introduce the wagon into the lineup than by putting it on a Viper platform?” PHOTOS: See More of the 2014 SRT Viper TA
At this point, details are still slim on the one-off project and we only have one exclusive photo to work with. But we do know that it will in fact use the same 8.4-liter V10 and push out 640 horsepower — albeit with a bit of extra junk in the trunk. Chrysler hopes it will entice the "family friendly enthusiast," citing enough room in the hatch for groceries and sports equipment.
All being said, let's just hope this Viper wagon will have as much bite as its coupe counterpart. You can check it out in person when it hits the show floor at the New York Auto Show later this month.
