How (and Why) Audi Offers Major Discounts to British Royal Family
If you are a member of the British Royal family, it might be logical to travel in a historically British marque. Perhaps a Rolls-Royce, Bentley or Jaguar would do. But despite this prevailing logic, many British Royals travel in Audis, and it might be part of a lucrative deal with the German automaker. The Daily Mail has observed that many members of the British royal family own Audis, despite the obvious choice of a Jag or Rolls. Their report has carefully worded language regarding a potential deal with Audi: “The Royal family are understood to be benefiting from a leasing arrangement by German car manufacturer Audi which could offer them up to a 60 per cent discount on their cars.” PHOTOS: See More of the 2014 Audi A8 L
According to the report, the Prince of Wales owns a £92,500 ($152,500) A8L, two Audi Allroads (one for himself and one for the Duchess of Cornwall), and two A4s for his staff. Prince William owns a V8-powered S4, while he and the Duchess of Cambridge own a £250,000 ($412,000) Bentley (Audi and Bentley both fall under the umbrella of Volkswagen, AG).

The report suggests that the discounted rides are part of a campaign to boost the brand’s image. From Justin Timberlake to Tom Brady, the German automaker has seen fit to align itself with some high-profile celebs. Brady gets his Audis for free, but gifting the Royals with cars is apparently ‘sensitive.’ The discounted purchase skirts the image of bribery or corruption.
Still, it would be nice for the commoner to receive a 60% discount on, well, anything!
