Alpina BMW B4 Bi-Turbo: The M4 Alternative
Say you’re in the market for a new BMW. Maybe you’ve had you’re eye on the new BMW M4. But you want to be different, you want to stand out, and you want something that will make standard M4 owners stop and stare. Call the good folks at Alpina. The longtime BMW tuner took hold of the all-new 4 Series coupe and gave it a makeover from top to bottom. Starting from the outside, the B4 received a subtle set of lines including a lightly revised front fascia, new exhaust, and 20-inch Alpina wheels. But what the B4 lacks in extravagance outside, it more than makes up for in power under the hood. The 3.0-liter inline-six bi-turbo comes with 410 horsepower on tap. A notch less powerful than the standard M4, but still capable of reaching 60 mph (100 km/h) in 4.0 seconds, on to a top speed of 186 mph (300 km/h), and returning a class-leading 37 mph (7.6l/100km).
Price for the B4 (in Europe) will set you back €57,647 (approx. $80,000 USD), while the factory M4 is a bit cheaper at €56,643 (approx. $78,000 USD). Question is — is all this 'uniqueness' worth the extra cost?
