Toyota Trademarks 'Supra' Nameplate — New Sportscar on the Way?
It’s been 16 years since we’ve seen a new Toyota Supra in the states. And for the past few years, we’ve been brushing off rumors and reports of a reborn coupe from the Japanese brand. But now there might actually be some hard evidence to support these rumors. Again. Last week we reported that the stunning FT-1 Concept was undoubtedly the new Supra in disguise (or at least we hope). Now today, we learn from The Motor Report that Toyota has dusted off the Supra nameplate, and renewed its 2010 trademark in the U.S. PHOTOS: See More of the 2015 Toyota Supra Concept
Of course, it isn’t all that uncommon to see brands like Toyota renewing classic nameplates in order to keep them in the family. But with the introduction of the FT-1 — and the rumors surrounding all that it actually is — we don’t doubt a new Supra may be on its way. And soon.
As of yet, Toyota hasn’t divulged any official information regarding a new sportscar. But we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
