Nissan GT-R Nismo is Lighter, Faster, and Much Much Meaner
It doesn't get much more sinister than the Nissan GT-R. With gobs of power, a super-intelligent all-wheel drive system, and looks that only a mother could love, it's a mean machine, indeed. One of the most heralded supercars around just got a menacing new upgrade courtesy of Nissan's Japanese tuning arm, Nismo. From the bottom up, the GT-R Nismo comes with a custom body kit complete with upgraded front and rear bumpers, side skirts, and a monster rear wing. All these added features increase the downforce on the GT-R by about 220 lbs (99 kg). Not only did Nismo tack on some extra aerodynamics, but pulled an extra 50 horses comes from under the hood. That gives it some 595 horsepower and an estimated top speed of over 200 mph.
But the new GT-R Nismo isn't all about straight line speed, oh no. Rumor has it that this latest iteration of the GT-R set a monster lap time of 7:08.69 on the Nurburgring. This trumps the previous GT-R lap record by a full 16 seconds (from 2011).
So, it's pretty easy to see that the new Nismo GT-R is one bad machine. Sales are said to begin in Japan near the beginning of 2014, with sales in the U.S. beginning later in the year.
