New Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ Patents a Sign of Things to Come?
There have been a lot of rumors swirling around as to the future of the Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ. More power, hybrids, turbochargers— we're not really sure what to believe. But what we do know for sure, is that these two new patents have definitely piqued our interest. Originally pointed out by readers on Jalopnik, the two patents filed by Toyota/Subaru call for "motor vehicle(s) and/or toy replica(s)." Which means it could be a real car...or a real toy car.
Either way, we can see that the first patent calls for a very Toyota Supra-esque rear end, complete with a massive rear wing. Of course, we've already seen this on the GT 86 Aero Kit overseas. And though the second patent is slightly reminiscent of the GT 86 concept we saw early in 2012, the differences in the front fender flares and headlights paint a different picture.
We doubt this has anything to do with the BRZ STI we've been longing for, but, it could be a preview of a more hopped-up FR-S/GT 86 or even an aero package aimed for the U.S. Or it could just be a toy. Who knows, we'll have to wait for word from Toyota on this.
