5 Auto Shows to Add to Your Bucket List
Question: what do you get when you mix equal parts beauty pageant, county fair, and history museum? Answer: a car show, one of the greatest things to come down the pike since the internal combustion engine. Here’s a look at five annual shows you should make a point of attending before you die. The Chicago Auto Show
Held most years since 1901, this yearly extravaganza takes place at Chicago’s McCormick Place convention center. More than one million visitors flock to the Windy City each February to see acres and acres of magnificent vehicles. If you only get to only one big show in your life, make it this one.
The Houston Auto Show
This mammoth event attracts over 400,000 visitors each year. Among the more than 500 vehicles represented are vintage makes, concept cars, and alternative-fuel machines. The next show is scheduled for January 22-26 2014.
The Alabama International Auto Show
Held each November, this gathering features hundreds of vehicles spread over more than 230,000 square feet. The next one is coming up November 21st-24th.
The North American International Auto Show
Held in Detroit, this show was fairly low-key until the mid-1980s, when a group of Motor City promoters decided to make it into a truly global event. With 800,000 visitors each year, it rivals the Chicago Auto Show in scope. If you want to see the latest and greatest that auto manufacturers have to offer, then this is where you need to be. Carmakers chose the 2012 show to unveil 60 of their new models to the public.
The Concours D' Lemons
Held every summer in Seaside, CA, this event is to the auto industry what the Razzies are to motion pictures. Entrants compete for such non-prestigious awards as “worst in show.” If you’ve ever wanted to see such cringe-worthy rides as the Yugo, the Peel, and the Gremlin all in one place, then this is the show for you.
