S-Class Coupe Replaces CL-Class As Top-Tier Grand Tourer
The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class was one of the most elegant, boulevard cruising luxury coupes on the market. But with the recent trend by Mercedes of folding standalone coupe models (like the CLK) into standalone models like the C-Class Coupe and E-Class Coupe, the CL was destined for a re-naming. Thus we have the Concept S-Class Coupe; a redesigned, renamed replacement for the CL, and its full-size, 2-door, luxury goodness. Lets get right down to it- Mercedes has taken to some very sumptuous curves and angles in its most recent debuts, such as the CLA-Class and E63 AMG. The S-Coupe takes these design cues to new extremes, powered by a potent drivetrain. We’re hoping this is the foreshadowing of the S550 Coupe and that there is a V12-powered AMG model to come as well.
The S-Class Coupe also brings the tech, with dual 12.3-inch displays and a small touch pad on the steering wheel. That’s right– A touch pad. On a steering wheel…and safety advocates blame cell phones for distracted driving. Only time will tell if that feature makes its way to the production version of the S-Class Coupe when it debuts in the next several months.
