Your Ride: 1986 Porsche 911 Turbo
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911. Arguably, one of the greatest sportscars ever built has spanned six generations, critical acclaim around the globe and on instantly recognizable body shape. It's no wonder then that one of our readers, Kelly, wanted to show off her stunning example- a custom 1986 911 Turbo widebody. Check out the full story:
How did you acquire your ride?
I bought it from a local specialty car dealer in Wilsonville, Oregon called GranPrix Imports, which has since gone out of business.
What drew you in when you bought it?
I have always loved the Porsche Widebody Turbos, the 930's, the 935's, the 996 (of which I have a black 2001 w/ 25K miles!) and 997's as well. The 1986 930 Widebody Carrera pictured here was the recipient of a $60,000+ restoration by the original owner and literally no expense was spared in doing so.
The restoration had under 2,200 miles on it when I acquired it and everything was as new or better than factory. The paint is stunning, the black leather interior is flawless w/white analog gauges and electric sport bucket seats, 920 watt Kenwood MP3, short throw shifter, HUGE Brembo brakes, fully adjustable track suspension, stainless aftermarket Turbo exhaust, a set of 1-off 18" Kinesis 3 piece wheels made exclusively for this car (the ONLY set in the world), G-Force KDW tires, 5 speed transaxle, upgraded A/C compressor, and on and on and on!
Does it have a name?
Yes, dubbed it "The Silver Bullet."
What do you feel like when you drive it?
Like a million bucks, grin from ear to ear and very proud and privileged to own such a car. Everywhere I go people stop, look, take pictures, ask questions. Draws a crowd every time I'm out in it.
What would you change about the car, if anything?
I would not change anything, 'cause honestly, it is just about perfect, in my humble opinion anyway!
What have you done to make it a bolder ride?
Thoroughly detail it before and after every time I drive it, and NEVER drive it in the rain, EVER!
Dream accessory for it and why?
The only accessory I have or want or need is the Red Satin, perfectly fitted car cover I have for it. It
needs nothing else.
