Volvo Concept Coupe Relives Memories of P1800 [w/video]
Volvo's history has been a long and mostly subtle one. Rolling out its first car in 1927, only a few vehicles over its long lifespan have managed to catch the eye of the enthusiast- the P1800 arguably being the most acknowledged of which. It's become so iconic for Volvo in fact, that it's turned into a bit of a celebrity in its own right. So, why not relive a bit of P1800 history then? With something like this- the 2013 Volvo Concept Coupe. Prepped and ready for a debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show. RELATED: 1961 Volvo P1800

Granted, a new look was a long time in the making. According to Volvo Senior Vice President of Design Thomas Ingenlath, the Concept Coupe "reveals how we could shape our cars from now on," and that it's, "Free from the superficial surface excitement of other car brands, we add emotional value to the Volvo brand with the calm, confident beauty that is the hallmark of Scandinavian design." The first to go under the knife with the new look will be the highly-touted XC90 crossover, soon to be followed by, what we assume to be, the S60, and eventually the rest of the lineup. But don't worry, it's not all brawn and no brain. Under the hood sits a nifty new driveline.
The 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine delivers 400 horsepower- which Volvo boasts to be somewhere in "V8 territory." But it's not your average four-pot; the turbocharged and supercharged (or, twin-charged) plug-in hybrid Drive-e engine (got all that?) reflects Volvo's new powertrain strategy in each new vehicle moving forward. A better core to go with all that fancy new design work. This impressive new Volvo concept will be on display for all to see come this year's 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. For now, you can catch a quick (rendered) glimpse of the Concept Coupe in the video below:
