Mini Could Kill Off Coupe, Roadster for New Sportscar
If you take a look at the current Mini lineup, you'll realize that the brand might have moved too far, too fast with some of its new products. The Paceman, the Countryman, the Coupe (pictured), the Roadster: all niches within a niche, and none of them truly on the mark, unlike the standard Cooper hardtop which has stood the test of time. So, we'd say it's about to that point where Mini starts considering killing off some of the less-desireables, in place of something a little (or a lot) better, like a new sportscar. That's a good start. Ditching the Coupe and the Roadster within the next few years, Carsales.com.au reports that an all-new sportscar is likely to make its way into the mix. Even more enticing, it's unlikely to share any sort of body panels with the likes of current Minis, making it on the more exclusive end.
Naturally, the up-and-coming new sportster will likely still wear many of the Mini facial features including the signature rounded headlights, and it should provide the underpinnings of a new S and JCW class of high-performance Minis as well. No word on when or if we'll actually see this exciting new Mini, but expect any news closer to the end of this year. PHOTOS: See more of the 2012 Mini Coupe
