2015 Audi R8: Lighter, Meaner, Faster
The Audi R8 has already been on the market for a number of years, but we've already seen it go through a few changes throughout its lifetime. The current generation R8 undergoing a recent nip and tuck, complete with new headlights, taillights and a minor engine tweak. Come 2015 though, and there's a whole new beast headed for the Audi lineup. Coinciding with Audi's aggressive new design approach, complete with more power and less weight, the latest and greatest Audi R8 should be one for the ages. According to Auto Express, the next-gen R8 is set to adopt a more dynamic design both inside and out, including a larger, more prominent grille, aggressive air intakes, shorter side blades and a race-inspired "double diffuser." Inside, we'll see a high-tech makeover, including a digital instrument cluster, a digital rearview mirror and an upgraded infotainment system.
Under the bonnet, the same 4.2-liter V8 should carry over with somewhere in the market of 450 horsepower, and the 5.2-liter V10, featuring 600 hp. Both are also expected to sport a high-tech start/stop system, which is said to improve fuel efficiency by up to ten percent. With all this power and an updated design, Audi promises the build will consist mostly of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic body panels, titanium wheel hubs, and ceramic brakes- all shedding the weight to just about 1,500 kg (3,307 lbs). Expect more details to come into focus closer to an official unveiling. PHOTOS: See more of the Audi R8
