Mexican Startup VUHL Unveils EcoBoost-Powered 05 Track Car
Like Mastretta before it, startup Mexican automaker VUHL (short for Vehicles of Ultra High-performance and Lightweight), hopes to become a big name for a country previously synonymous for producing every other automaker's vehicles. Yesterday, they made quite the splash when they unveiled their 05 track car ahead of Goodwood. With 285-hp on tap, the 2.0-liter EcoBoost-powered machine, VUHL says, is a "lightweight supercar for road and track in the vein of the BAC Mono, Ariel Atom, KTM X-Bow, etc." As if the open-top and minimal windscreen didn't reveal it's 'track car' persona already, the 05 is built on a monocoque chassis, with a an RTM reinforced plastic body. All this bringing the curb weight to just around 695kg (1,532 lbs).
Performance figures are equally as impressive; 0-100 km/h (62 mph) is dealt with in only 3.7 seconds, continuing on to a top speed of 245 km/h (152 mph). Prices for the 05 will start off at just about £55,000 ($84,000), when it goes on sale in the UK spring of 2014. North America along with the rest of Europe to follow soon after.
