Chevy SS Is a Performance Beast For $44,470

For all the years that Chevrolet used SS as a performance designation, no single model wore it as an actual name, until now. While SS has been thrown on everything from iconic coupes to low-slung pickups, the letters will now come to represent Chevy's new four-door, rear-wheel drive, V8 performance sedan. While that's old news, we now have the price. The 2014 Chevy SS will cost buyers $44,470. Let's brake down what that gets you. For starters, it puts you in the neighborhood of other full-size American performance sedans, such as the 365-horsepower Ford Taurus SHO ($40,695) and the 475-hp Dodge Charger SRT8 ($47,245). For the price of admission, Chevy delivers a 415-horsepower 6.2-liter V8, a 6-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the rear wheels, and standard Brembo brakes. According to GM estimates, 0-60 will be done close to five seconds, which puts it closer to the SHO than the SRT. Pricing is just a few thousand dollars more than the short-lived Pontiac G8 GXP. Only time will tell if the car can live up to the SS moniker, and some wheel-time will help to determine that! PHOTOS: See more of the 2014 Chevrolet SS
