Maserati Ditches Supercar, Plans Smaller Sportscar
Say it ain't so mama, say it ain't so! It looks like Maserati won't be building a LaFerrari-based supercar after all, but rather, a smaller more affordable sportscar; at least that's what the firm's chief Harald J. Wester told Autoexpress. While the LaMaserati may be dead for now, the Italian automaker hopes that the smaller, lighter sportscar will be introduced sometime in the 2015-2016 model year, a bit after the launch of the new GranCabrio and GranTurismo.
Thankfully, it will boast a mid-engine layout and it will only have two-seats, but it won't be based on the new Afla Romeo 4C as that "would require us [Maserati] to create a more sporty, al-new body for Maserati." We won't say we're not disappointed the ditching of the supercar plans- because we are- but all we can hope for now is that the new sportscar will be the most badass Maserati to date.
