2013 Volvo S60 Polestar: Almost, But Not Enough

A while back, Swedish tuning firm Polestar debuted an amazing 500-plus-horsepower version of the S60. Soon after, Volvo rolled out a C30 with a Polestar pack that did little to satisfy our desire for a spec'd-up Swedish sled. Now, the Volvo S60 Polestar has been unveiled, and it has done a much better job of appeasing Swedish speed freaks- but did not go all the way. In the movie "The Untouchables," Sean Connery kept asking of Kevin Costner's Elliot Ness, "What are you prepared to do?" Apparently, Volvo was not prepared to go all the way and create the originally envisioned 508 horsepower Volvo Polestar Concept Car. That would have created a vehicle that would turn heads and perked up ears in the world's performance community. Rather, Volvo has created a 350-horsepower sedan that will get you to work just a little faster. With a zero-to-sixty time of 4.9 seconds, the S60 Polestar is no slouch, but Volvo would have been wise to never let word of the more powerful concept see the light of day, lest the motoring world have its expectations dashed.
