Next-Gen Tesla Roadster to Improve on Efficiency, Power
Let the electric sportscar battle officially begin. Word has it that Tesla is hard at work on a more efficient and more powerful Roadster which will "push the envelope beyond what anybody else is doing." Will this become the modern version of Mustang vs. Camaro? Who knows, but consider our interest officially piqued. Detroit Electric just began nudging its way into the spotlight recently, with a Lotus-based electric sportscar of its own, which is also the world's new fastest electric-production sportscar. As such, its no surprise that Elon Musk of Tesla is ready to bring out the big guns to lay some of these claims to rest.
Talking with UK's Autocar, Tesla boss George Blankenship says that the next-gen roadster should sport a healthy 0-60 time of under 4 seconds and surpass a range of 200-miles between charges. Tesla also hopes to set up a network of dealers- one in central London- where all upcoming models will be more readily available. With the Model X SUV to follow the Model S, and another 3-Series sized 4-door soon after, expect an updated roadster somewhere within the 2016-2017 model year.
