Chrysler Plotting Rival to Camaro Z/28
If you thought Chrysler was going to lay down and let the Mustang Boss 302 and Camaro Z/28 have all the fun, you are quite mistaken my friend. While more often than not, the Challenger seems more at home on the sea than it does on asphalt, SRT boss Ralph Gilles promises "an answer for the Z/28" in the form of the Challenger. Coming soon to a dealership near you. Talking turkey with Motor Trend at last week's New York Auto Show, Gilles didn't say much more than that when thinking up the Z/28 rival, but also said that the Challenger replacing Barracuda was still a ways off from final production.
With a Z/28 rival, we expect the same 6.4L HEMI V8 found under the hood of the current SRT8 to crank up to nearly (or over) 500-hp. Like the Boss and Z/28, the Challenger will undoubtedly be stripping down some from the monstrous 4,100+ pound curb weight and add on stickier tires, better brakes and aerodynamic bits aplenty. Lighter, meaner, more powerful- we like those odds.
