2014 Cadillac CTS Continues to Define American Luxury
Last night, at a private event at the Lincoln Center, Cadillac treated us to their own type of concerto. Rolling out onto the stage was the 2014 Cadillac CTS, and this new version of the car that redefined the American luxury market tells us a lot about where the brand is going. Our first impression of seeing the CTS in person is that it basically looks like a Mercedes-Benz E-Class, mixed with the smaller ATS. Frankly the ATS seems to have more of the artful angular look of the previous CTS, and this new car is long and narrow by comparison.
As described before, the new CTS will have a 321-horsepower 3.6-liter V6, and a twin-turbo V6, capable of 420 horsepower. Also, as yours truly predicted, a 2.0-liter inline-4 making 270 horsepower. This trio of engines is a huge thing for Cadillac, as it gives the CTS a competing vehicle at every tier against the German rivals.
There is a lot going on beyond the engines as well. The car is 200 pounds lighter and Cadillac's magnetic ride control is available on even the base trim now. In all, this gives the CTS a full deck of cards to finally be considered seriously against the likes of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. We cannot wait to get our mits on it for some wheel time!
