Ford Confirms 300HP 4-Cylinder Mustang for 2015
It's official, the next-generation Ford Mustang will come with a 4-cylinder engine. For Europe, at least. This, coming off some new details from Edmunds, reporting that the Mustang will receive a 2.3L Ford Focus-based engine with somewhere near 300-hp. While Ford says that the four-banger will be offered in Europe, they won't be taking it back to the Colonies just yet. Here in the states, the Mustang will remain true to its muscle car history with a base V6 and a more powerful 5.0L V8 in the GT, at least until 2015.
At the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, Ford officials were quite pleased of the previous successes of the Mustang in Europe: "You only have to look at the incredible response to Mustang when it has appeared this summer at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, in the U.K., and at the Le Mans Classic, in France, to get a sense of the excitement this American icon generates across Europe." No word on pricing or when it will go on sale, but Ford says that the Mustang will remain a low-volume specialty car when it hits showrooms sometime in 2014.
