Chevrolet Planning Budget Corvette Coupe Under Stingray?
If you haven't already heard about Chevrolet's all-new Corvette Stingray, welcome to the internet, we assume it's your first time. Every outlet from here to Nantucket (including us) has bombarded the back of your skulls with anything and everything Corvette Stingray. So, if you aren't already tired of it, here's another gem: a budget Corvette. That's right, a smaller, more affordable Chevrolet Corvette placed just under the current Stingray. As you know, Chevrolet already has a convertible, a Z06 and a ZR1 planned for the future of the lineup. Now, with the addition of a "low-cost" Corvette, it brings a total of five available specs for the all-new C7, for the numerically challenged.
These new reports from Motor Trend say that while the current Stingray will still bear a 450-hp 6.2-liter V8, the budget 'Vette would carry a smaller, 5.3L V8 producing somewhere near the 400-hp mark. Still, not a tortoise by any stretch of the imagination. The Corvette Coupe- as it has been so creatively titled- will still carry the signature Corvette style but for the sake of price, will ditch many aesthetics found on the current Stingray including a revised fascia, front fender and rear diffuser. Price for this Chevy budget coupe is expected well under the $50K mark. Thrifty (er) and powerful, we like.
