End of An Error? Fung Wah Bus Fleet Taken Off Road
If you traveled between Boston and New York in the last decade, there is a good chance you have seen a number of discount bus lines. One in particular, Fung Wah, is notorious for its causal take on reservations, reckless driving and lax maintenance. The latter has gotten the bus company in hot water as nearly the entire Fung Wah fleet has been taken off the road per order of the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. According to news sources, the busses were found to have cracks in the frames as well as in the drive axles. 21 of the 28 busses in the company's fleet have been taken off the road. The DPU would like to see Fung Wah shut down until the problems can be fixed, but the company is lisenced on the federal level. It can continue running the seven remaining busses, some of which are sold out in spite of the recent news.
As an unpaid intern in NYC, I would often take the Fung Wah home to Boston. It was always a harrowing ride. Only once did I experience a breakdown. The moment I had disposable income I stepped up to more reputable means of transport...like Bolt Bus.
