Chevy Rules Out El Camino Revival, Mulling SS Wagon
With the recent reveal of the Chevrolet SS- the shared platformed with the Holden Commodore- the possibilities for a Ute and Wagon version of said vehicle were ideas that have already been realized for our friends to the West (Australia). The Commodore Ute and Wagon, both being relatively warm ticket selling points in the Australian market. Now, with the SS officially dropping anchor on U.S. soil, Chevy says that the possibilities of bringing a wagon variant stateside are still alive, but an El Camino revival in the form of an SS ute are all but dead in the water.
"It's a little bit late for the Ute," GM North America President and former Holden boss Mark Reuss told Carsales.com.au, "Some people think it'd be a really cool thing to do, but not at a high price. We could never sell it at the price it would need to be." Shooting down any possibilities of a Ute here in the U.S., Reuss went on to further discuss the idea of an SS sportwagon: "The wagon we could charge for more, so it's not too late for the wagon." If the SS wagon is confirmed for sale in the U.S., don't expect it anytime in 2013, but rather, early next 2014.
