2014 Kia Forte: The George Clooney of the C-Segment
I really liked the previous generation Kia Forte. It never really tried to be anything more than what it was; cheap and usable. And in coupe form -or should I say Koup- having been given a little more power, it could have been more than suitable contender for the Honda Civic Si and others. Overall, Kia never really capitalized on their first-gen Forte; it was a “let it be” sort of moment, before the South Korean company stepped back and analyzed what they needed to do to make their successful sedan/koup combo, even more successful going forward. Since then, the Optima had hit the market, along with the newly refurbished Sorento SUV and the adorable little Rio, all with newfound bursts of success. Hoping to capitalize on these gains, the aging Forte was much overdue for a new face and body.
This -the 2014 Kia Forte- is easily the best looking C-Segment vehicle on the market today, even more so than the now easily forgettable Hyundai younger sibling, who’s name slips my mind at the current moment. With Kia’s singular design cues set in place, engineers shrunk down the Optima, gave it a new chassis and released it for c-segment enthusiasts’ (if that’s even a thing) to gawk over. In general, it's simple, handsome and extremely likable, sort of like a George Clooney type character. And, at 2.0L, the Forte even manages a hefty 173-hp, and with a 1.8L option, mpg should reach somewhere near the golden 40 mark. Sure, maybe if you look hard enough the wheels could be a bit bigger, or the front end a bit smaller, but in general Kia picked a winner, let’s just hope the sedan spawns a sportier more powerful coupe, or something similar to the Pro_Cee'd hot hatch. Then it would be more like an Antonio Banderas- FIESTA! PHOTOS: See more of the 2014 Kia Forte
