Audi Considering Race-Bred R10 Hypercar- Let the Games Begin

Mclaren, Porsche, Ferrari; all three of these fast and famous automakers each their own have a 200MPH+ halo hypercar (McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, Ferrari Enzo successor). And each of these three new hypercars, find themselves sophomore to the Koenigsegg Agera, Bugatti Veyron, Aston Martin One-77, the list goes on. But for longtime German automaker Audi, their top spec halo car has come in the form of the 525-hp Audi R8, which, tends to get laughed at on occasion by Porsche 911 owners (although, Porsche should probably check their pockets). As Audi looks more into the future though, an R8 refresh is scheduled not so long ahead, and, an even more powerful, McLaren, Ferrari and Porsche rivaling hypercar entitled the “R10” could be slated for production. This sort of new technology could include the introduction of the first diesel-hybrid hypercar in production. Sitting down with, Audi technical development chief Wolfgang Durheimer said that there is in fact “definitely room for a super sports car above the R8,” and the diesel-hybrid option “could make it a hot-seller.” Early estimated figures suggest that the “R10” could manage 60 mph in only about 3 seconds and continue on to a top speed of 200mph via a 700-hp hybrid engine.
