Build This Not That- Chevy Tru 140S Over Sonic
There’s many reasons to painfully dislike General Motors; mostly, though, because of Daewoo. But like most automakers, the good folks over at GM are just trying to make a living by building vehicles they think will appeal to a mass market. The Malibu, the Cruze, and more recently, the Sonic. Essentially, an econobox that skydives and jumps over skateboards, remember? But what GM/Chevy forgot to incorporate into the Sonic, they more than made up for in the Tru 140S concept back at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year. It’s stunningly good looking, futuristic and if rumors are to be ‘Tru,’ it would be relatively efficient. The future- now. Sadly, though, it most likely won’t be built. It’s sort of one of those ‘look what we can do,’ moments. Sure, this concept looks great on the show floor, but will it look great in the pockets of Chevy top dogs, most likely not.
So what’s the solution? Take the Sonic out back and shoot it like an old dog? Us enthusiast types want an affordable, good looking and fun-to-drive (RWD, please) sports car in the Chevy lineup. If you are looking to appeal to the “MILLENIALS,” the Sonic and Spark are not the answer, and the Camaro, as we know first hand, sorta sucks.
