SLS AMG GT3 Brings Mercedes-Benz Back to Racing Glory
GT3-Class cars are always fun to stare at. Before this, the Bentley Continental GT3 was victim of our dirty eyeballs. Now, the Germans are following where the Brits left off and turning their standard SLS AMG into a hard core, race-ready GT3 car. This special edition will mark the 45th anniversary for the Mercedes racing group and its relationship with in-house AMG. Resembling the not-so-standard 2012 GT3 racer, this "customer sports racing car" will carry many of the same styling cues and a massively powerful 6.3L AMG V8. On the outside, the SLS comes complete with a full racing guise; more ridges, bumps and flaps than any one man would know what to do with. All these extreme new facial features though, provide the GT3 car with a hugely aerodynamic design intended for maximum downforce into corners.
Speaking of high speeds, this 45th Anniversary edition will come with the aforementioned 6.3L V8 sourced from AMG, and although no horsepower figures have officially been given, it should be an upgrade from the 583-hp found in the SLS AMG GT. Mercedes says that only five of these collector cars will ever be built, each badged with a “1 of 5” logo both on the seats and center console. Good lord, we can't wait to see them in action.
