Renault Alpine A110-50 Moves Closer to Production
Confession: I love the Renault Alpine A110-50 concept. I mean, look at it. Overall, it's a stunning piece of automotive machinery that presents a beyond-boisterous color scheme and body kit that conspire to pay homage to the classic Renault Alpine of past. It would seem the French know their way around a concept supercar. Excuse me, former concept supercar I should say. If new reports from British magazine Autocar are to be believed, the Renault Alpine A110-50, complete with 400-hp and all-wheel drive, will be the latest model in the French automakers lineup.
According to Renault COO Carlos Tavares, he says that the team is "ahead of schedule" in working out an agreement between the Renault group and a willing investment partner in order to revive the Alpine name and turn this sexy concept into a sexy reality. Tavares also says that "the platform layout is now finished," and hints at a possible mid-engine configuration to accompany the aforementioned all-wheel drive, 400-hp layout. Although Renault says that the Alpine production model will only bear minor similarities to the concept, we hear that the styling will come mostly from the equally handsome DeZir concept, with influences from the Megane Trophy racer to boot.
