Video: Motor Trend Picks Its Best Driver's Car for 2012
If you're a fan of things that go fast, make lots of noise, and incinerate tires faster than Snoop Dogg trapped in a grow house; then 2012 has been a good year for you. Motor Trend takes a look at the most exciting cars on sale this year through a series of road tests, track tests and more road tests with plenty of jaded auto journalist opinion sprinkled throughout. It's good stuff, all 30 minutes of it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBfugbEIlk4&feature=g-all-u We made a list of our favorite cars, before watching the video, and it came out like this: 1) Mclaren MP4-12C
By far the coolest car out on the market, it's fast, it looks good, handles like God's personal go-kart, and can be relaxed and comfortable when you need it to be. We haven't had one as a long-term test car, so hopefully someone from Mclaren reads this blog.
2) Mercedes C63 AMG Coupe Black Series
We were big fans of the CLK63 Black, and it looks like the C63 AMG Coupe Black Series seems to be carrying on the tradition. We also like that it has rear seats now, although we would probably loose that huge wing, and put straight pipes on it.
3) Subaru BRZ/Camaro ZL1
Both of these cars could stand to learn from the other. The BRZ is a fantastic car, mostly due to the fact that its light weight makes it an excellent handler. It's also pretty comfortable, but it is down on power though. 200 horsepower is not what it used to be, and we have to agree that its not a great driver's car just yet.
The Camaro ZL1, on the other hand, is a feat of engineering. Getting a 4100+ lb car to accelerate, stop and turn the way the ZL1 does is pretty impressive. But similar to the old adage "there's no replacement for displacement", "physics is a bitch". The GM boys should take a page out of the BRZ book and introduced a stripped down ZL1, as it would probably be loads of fun to drive.
Our only real gripe is with the winning car. We know the 991 is very capable, it's a 911 after all , but it doesn't seem that special. Especially when you know there's going to be a faster, better, more badass version released within the next 10-18 months.
