This 1982 Lamborghini Countach 5000s is on eBay through August 19th (with a price of US $185,000).
About this car In 1978, a new LP 400S model was introduced. Though the engine was slightly downgraded from the LP 400 model (355 PS), the most radical changes were in the exterior, where the tires were replaced with much wider Pirelli P7 units, and fiberglass wheel arch extensions were added, giving the car the fundamental look it kept until the end of its production run. An optional V-shaped spoiler was available over the rear deck, which, while improving high-speed stability, reduced the top speed by at least 10 MPH. Most owners ordered the wing. The handling of the LP 400S was improved by the wider tires which made the car more stable in cornering.
What the seller said about it This car is Lamborghini's fuel injection prototype. Not only a very significant Countach as is the prototype for the 5000s, but this car is also a milestone in the factory's history as the first official fuel injected Lambo. The pedigree is undeniable, including many letters from the managing director of Lamborghini North America, Trefor Thomas, regarding their work with the factory and the car's pivotal and controversial role at this time. It was also the car that Lamborghini officially used to pass all EPA tests so Lamborghinis could be sold in the US as well the world (Europe/Japan) in the future.
Much of the documentation and letters reveals controversial information about Lamborghini's history at that time, Chrysler, Ford, the EPA as well as exact history of Lamborghini's production. Documentation and notes from people on the team that built the injection system, as well as photos from the time. Included are first hand account notes on exactly the specifications of the original build and specs of how this car changed the way Lamborghini made their engines from there on forward. This car was shipped back to the Lamborghini factory in 1984 where they then finalized the front and rear facia design and fully rebuilt the car where it served as the prototype for the 5000s and new direction for the future. Reported only example in this color combination at the time. This car was pictured in numerous Lamborghini books and has models made of it.
While the car is a prototype, the parts are available and the system is very reliable. No different service from other Countachs is needed and the car may be enjoyed worry free. It is in the original condition as last left the factory and used as the prototype. No need for restoration as the car is immaculate from sympathetic ownership since the 1980's.
Valuable as a car can never be unrestored. Immaculate original blue leather interior with no shrinkage issues so common to cars of the time. It wears beautiful original paint and has been sympathetically owned it entire life. Excellent oil pressure, good coolant and oil temps, well working climate control and original stereo system, etc. Doors open and close with one finger.
Hood and deck lids open and shut well with good gaps. Recently has undergone mechanical service and detailing as well as being fitted with it’s original exhaust system that has been restored. Also fitted with correct period “Prova” registration plate. This car was filmed earlier this year for a Discovery Channel show speaking about the technology and history of Lamborghini as well.
